I am still in the process of sending out Skyway Invitations. With grandpa’s sudden sickness and week-long waiting for his time to move on, I really got behind on some things. By tomorrow I will have all of the invitations out. If people confirm by the end of next week, then I can continue to fill in the blanks.
Here is what I put as “policies” of the Skyway Challenge:
To make this an educational, creative and different from other tournaments, The Skyway Challenge will have the following policies:
- All rounds are open and can be watched by all competitors, coaches, judges and visitors
- The tournament will use 5 minutes of prep time
- Cross-Examination is three minutes and cannot be used as prep time
- Judges are required to disclose and discuss their decisions.
- Cases should be considered public knowledge once they are read in a round and are subject to open discussion and distribution (that is, we are going to put together a “case book” ala the Greenhill Classic in policy debate)
- Full source citations (author, publication, date) are required to be read the first time a citation is made
- Given the data at recent tournaments in which like debaters are paired against each other resulting in an overwhelmingly majority of negative ballots, we will try a different format in which the Affirmative will have only a 5-minute 1AC and a 5-minute 1AR. We will be asking coaches, judges, debaters and visitors for their feedback on the issue
